Community volunteers teamed up today to build a playground at the Boys and Girls Club at 1455 S. Chelton Road.More than 200 volunteers were at the Boys & Girls Club today building a playground in the park area adjacent to the club at 1455 S. Chelton Road.

The project is part of a national initiative by KaBOOM! and Home Depot to build or refurbish 1,000 play spaces in 1,000 days.

KaBOOM! is a national nonprofit organization with a vision to create a playground within walking distance of every child in America.

The kids at this Boys & Girls Club designed the playground being built, he said.

The playground will provide a safe place to play for all children in the community.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pikes Peak Region offer children more than 30 programs within five core areas emphasizing education and career development, character and leadership development, the arts, health and life skills and sports, fitness and recreation.
