In a world that seems threatening and devoid of promise for many of America's children, the Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region provides a tangible measure of hope. The Club offers young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting, constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits. All Boys & Girls Club programs are based on a youth development strategy that builds self-confidence and self-esteem and fosters a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence.
The Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region has served the community since 1888 – 121 years. Our mission is clear: Create Hope, Opportunity and Civic Engagement “To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens." Our organization is also the oldest Club west of the Mississippi River and the eighth oldest Club of more than 4,400 worldwide. During our 121-year history, our organization has devoted itself to providing the youth of the Pikes Peak Region with a safe place to learn and grow. We operate three after school youth development programs and five before & after school child care programs in the Pikes Peak Region, serving approximately 2,500 youth with nationally acclaimed programming. Our purpose is to build self-esteem and life skills in children, ages 5-18, by providing hope and opportunity through quality programs and activities administered by trained professional staff in a positive, safe environment. We offer more than 30 national programs within the five core program areas; education and career development; character and leadership development; the arts; health and life skills; and sports, fitness and recreation.
Clubs provide facilities and programs designed specifically to meet the needs of youth. Diverse activities engage youth in core programs that encourage positive interaction with adults, peers and family members, enabling them to reach their full potential. Programs are based on physical, emotional, cultural and social needs, and interests of girls and boys, and recognized developmental principles. Clubs offer programs that are age appropriate, gender inclusive, gender specific and developmentally sound in five core program areas:
- Character and Leadership Development - empowers youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others' cultural identities.
- Education and Career Development - enables youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.
- Health and Life Skills - develops young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well being, set personal goals, and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
- The Arts - enables youth to develop their own creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
- Sports, Fitness and Recreation - develops fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment, and social skills.
