YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Congratulations Cassandra, the Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region Youth of the Year. Cassandra competed on Tuesday, March 11 along side 14 other Boys & Girls Club members from the state vying for the Colorado Youth of the Year honor. On Wednesday, March 12, Cassy was selected as one of the top three finalist in the competition and was given the opportunity to give her speech at the Youth of the Year Luncheon held at the Colorado History Museum in Denver, CO. Luncheon guests included Executive Directors and staff from Boys & Girls Club across the state and House of Representatives including Rep. Andrew Romanoff. Cassy received a $500 scholarship to Adams State from Bruce Landis, VP of Institutional Advancement at Adams State College as well as an additional $500 scholarship from the Colorado Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs. Cassy plans to attend either Adams State College or CSU-Pueblo in the fall and study Business Management. She graduates in May from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, CO. About Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Youth of the Year Program Sponsored by the Reader's Digest Foundation since 1947, the Youth of the Year Program is designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life. Competition begins with each Club selecting a Youth of the Year who receives a certificate and medallion then enters state competition. State winners receive a plaque and $1,000 scholarship then enter the regional competition. Each of the five regional winners receives a $10,000 scholarship and enters the national competition held in Washington, DC. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 scholarship, totaling $26,000 in scholarships, and is installed by the President of the United States.
